Ultralight Backpacks

Ultralight Backpacks for Problem-Free Camping Fun

It is not a surprise to note that Ultralight backpacking are in vogue. The experience of walking through the woods and running along the beat of nature without the weight of the usual heavy backpacks; the whole experience is exhilarating.

So how do you choose ultralight backpacks? The key trick is simply down-sizing. Most backpacks weigh at about seven pounds. The bag itself is already adding to the weight. Plus people tend to fill in extra spaces in the bag, pushing them to pack more than they need. Thus, using smaller backpacks will help you achieve your ultralight backpacking plans. An ideal bag weighs at about two pounds. You already save five inches from the bag itself. Plus the less baggage you bring along; you are guaranteed a more manageable camping baggage.

You still have to bring some essential stuff though; things you can’t do without. Fitting everything you need in a small bag is a challenge. You will need some skills in keeping things compact. The key is a good use of space. Do not leave any space unused. Check for extension collars you can use for some peripheral gears. These collars are also ideal for storing food that you will be eating during the trip as they are easy to open and are very accessible. If your lightweight backpacking doesn’t come with extension collars, you can always use some lightweight sack that you can attach under the compression straps. The gears you can store in this extra space are only those that you can afford to expose to moisture.

There are a number of lightweight backpack brands that try to make their huge backpacks appear positive. They use all sorts of positive names to convey the message. Do not fall prey to such advertising hoax. A heavy backpack is not any good. Not when it’s beating up the energy out of you. But if you are really into the bigger frames, you can shop around for big backpacks that genuinely include features that are intended to make the backpack lighter. I still highly recommend the smaller bags though. Purchasing one gives you the extra bonus of saving money from the smaller prices that come with smaller lightweight travel backpacks.
Going ultralight is not just about ultralight backpacks. It’s a matter of mind set and attitude. It starts with a decision; a decision that you do want to cut down on the weight of your backpack. This will give you the courage you need to leave behind some of the gadgets you don’t really need.

Though you’re going ultra light backpacking, you should never take your source of outdoor lighting for granted. Camping lanterns are always a good option. You can choose among a range of outdoor lanterns including kerosene lanterns, gas lanterns, electric lanterns and PED camping lanterns. The LED lantern is a good option if you wish to go ultralight. This type of lantern is highly compact and is very handy. They are ideal for long treks and even for hiking. If you are worried about brand names, you can always choose the safe route and purchase a Coleman lantern.
